Libertarians and the Warfare State by Anthony Gregory

My retirement be damned, this article by Anthony Gregory is simply too perfect to not pass on.

Pro-war libertarians remind me of the criticism (libel?) of libertarians in general that they are simply conservatives who want their pot to be legalized.

  • Rockwell's site has some good essays, even though I consider Rockwell a bit of a religious wing-nut :-)

I know the Iraq issue has polarised libs and some objectivists. I think there are degrees of libertarianism. I certainly am no purist - consider me a libertarian with a small "l". A lot of it has to do with the initiation of force I suppose- IMO Islam has declared war on the US again and again. What in your mind would constitute "proper grounds" for responding?

I have 2 articles you might be interested in -

Probably nothing you don't already know, and you may have already seen these, but the argument goes on and I am no expert, that's for sure.

  • Hey Ruth -- you think "Islam" started things?

Well, I'm no expert either, but I do know that our government has been terrorizing the middle east for decades, since at least the '50s when they aided the coup of Iran's then democratically elected leader, leading to the rise of the Shah.

When you go around the world intervening in others' affairs, there is going to be some blowback sooner or later. That's what 9/11 was. Instead of a fundamental alteration of foreign policy, Bushco. has decided to keep the cycle of insanity churning, all but guaranteeing a future full of terror. That's not the kind of response that I'd call effective.
